We’re packing our bags for Washington, D.C., to attend the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) Annual Meeting & Conference! As AALL hosts information professionals from across the globe over the next few days, Thomson Reuters is proud to again serve as a sponsor, and more importantly, to have an opportunity to hear from our customers.

Below is a recap of our long history of involvement with AALL as well as the ways we’ll connect with AALL members next week.

Mike Abbott, vice president of Enterprise Thought Leadership and Content Strategy for Thomson Reuters, recently spoke with Legal Current about the event, the importance of the AALL relationship to Thomson Reuters and the value of connecting with customers.

The Thomson Reuters Customer Appreciation Event is always a highlight of the AALL annual meeting activities. This year, we will celebrate at the renowned Library of Congress, where Dr. Carla Hayden, Librarian of Congress, will deliver brief remarks on the importance of public access to justice and legal information.

We will also commemorate the 100-year anniversary of American Law Reports, maybe better known as ALR. This resource has served as a valuable tool enabling research for a century, and we look forward to honoring this legacy.

We also will pay tribute to Statutes Compare and Regulations Compare on Westlaw Edge, which AALL named its 2019 New Product Award winner. We’re honored by this recognition and look forward to celebrating the award in D.C.

In addition, Thomson Reuters experts will participate on and moderate panels throughout the conference. Abbott will moderate the panel, “Fostering the NextGen Library Professionals: How the Changing Legal Market Shapes Our Roles.” Jeff Arvidson, director of Product Management, will participate in a session on a hot topic in the legal industry: analytics. This multiple-panel session will feature numerous participants, including notable influencers Jean O’Grady and Bob Ambrogi. Also, Dr. Khalid Al Kofahi, vice president of Research & Development and head of the Center of Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Computing for Thomson Reuters, will be part of a discussion on how bias can find its way into artificial intelligence-powered applications in a session titled, “Artificial Intelligence and Implicit Bias.”

Finally, several Thomson Reuters leaders, including all Information Management Advisors, will attend the AALL annual meeting to spend time with customers at programs and networking events. Our booth will highlight several products for law firm, academic, corporate and government librarians, including Westlaw Edge and the recently announced Jurisdictional Surveys feature, as well as Checkpoint Edge and more. We’ll offer great booth prizes and giveaways, as well as an Innovation Theatre, where attendees can take a deeper look at select products.

Should our paths not cross in D.C., we hope to connect soon.
