Thomson Reuters is incorporating generative AI capabilities enterprise-wide to provide customers with a more conversational experience, intuitive automation, time savings and a significantly improved user experience. Integrating this new technology will transform Thomson Reuters solutions and enable customers to get their work done faster.

Thomson Reuters is prioritizing its legal product suite, including Westlaw Precision, Practical Law and Drafting tools, and Legal Current is sharing a preview of what’s to come. Today we look at how the Legal Document Review and Summary tool will integrate generative AI to read through hundreds or even thousands of relevant documents in seconds.

Document Review and Summary

The Legal Document Review and Summary tool brings together an integrated set of legally trained, content-enabled AI capabilities to solve customers’ workflow needs across document summary, analysis, and drafting. Powered by HighQ, Practical Law, and Document Intelligence, the Legal Document Review and Summary tool will enable users to spot key risks in contracts and other documents, resolve questions, execute tasks, and generate powerful work product.

This solution leverages the extensive library of AI models in Document Intelligence to accurately classify documents and extract hundreds of key provisions and data points. The Document Intelligence AI models are trained by Practical Law attorney editors, who have deep industry and subject matter expertise that ensures the accuracy and usability of the data. Document Intelligence’s AI extractions are displayed in an easy-to-use dashboard that allows users to find discrete clauses across multiple contracts to quickly identify risks or answer questions.

The solution also allows users to quickly summarize contracts using generative AI – doing in minutes what would ordinarily take days. Users can create abstracts or generate quick summaries in response to emerging questions and their organization’s or client’s changing needs. The contract summarization capability is just one example of the significant impact generative AI will have automating on routine, time-consuming tasks for legal professionals.
