Zena Applebaum Named a 2023 Fellow by the College of Law Practice Management
Zena Applebaum, vice president, Product Marketing, Thomson Reuters has been named a 2023 fellow by the College of Law Practice Management. The college is a professional, educational, and honorary association dedicated to improving law practice management and enhancing the professional quality of and public respect for the law.
Applebaum shared what the recognition means to her, personally and professionally.
“I have spent more than 20 years in the legal industry helping to unlock the power of information and technology for business development, competitive intelligence, and access to justice,” Applebaum said. “I encouraged the industry to be more open to soft skills and go beyond the practice of law. There is little better than being recognized for those efforts by my industry peers in Canada, the U.S., and globally, as well as in firms, corporate departments, academic institutions, and government agencies. It really is humbling and an honor to have my work acknowledged in this way. I feel especially lucky to be able to both represent Thomson Reuters at the table as a business partner to the industry. And personally, I am proud that those who nominated me and accepted me can objectively see the contributions I have made to the legal profession as a practitioner, educator, and now, business partner.”

She noted how the college’s priorities and focus areas align with those of Thomson Reuters.
“The college is all about innovation within the legal space, recognizing the diversity of thought in the industry, and the power of technology to transform legal work,” Applebaum said. “This aligns to the Thomson Reuters mission around informing the way forward by being the best content-driven technology company. The two are similar in their missions, their global outlook, and their push for innovation and change.”
Applebaum shared what she’s excited about: “I am most looking forward to continuing to work side by side with the best minds in the business to continue driving innovation forward within the legal industry. I know generative AI, among other innovations, are blooming in the world and will not slow any time soon. I can’t wait to see how we harness it for good, at scale, within the industry at large.”
The college’s fellows include professionals from law firms, law companies, corporate legal departments, nonprofits, legal service providers, academia, and the judiciary. Fellows are nominated for their expertise and contributions in areas including management and strategy, technology, knowledge management, innovation, pricing, business development, marketing, recruiting, and professional development.
“As I said to Patrick Fuller and Greg Lambert when I was told about the nomination, I am honored,” Applebaum said. “I think the college does great work, and I look forward to contributing in meaningful ways going forward. I appreciate being included and recognized for my contributions despite not being a lawyer, librarian, or a technologist. I am, instead, a strong advocate and educator who really believes in the power of transformation within the legal industry.”
Applebaum and her class of 2023 fellows will be inducted at the college’s Futures Conference in Austin, Texas, in 2024.
