A broken engagement can result in many problems, not the least of which is the pesky question: who gets to keep the engagement ring?

The question is surprisingly fraught with a number of legal questions: Is it a gift? Is it a conditional gift? Can keeping the ring be considered compensation for a broken engagement?

A recent FindLaw survey finds that most people think the ring should go to the person who gave it. Case law and statutes are surprisingly varied, depending on the circumstances and jurisdiction. What do you think?
