Senator Al Franken talks with Rick King, CTO of the Professional Division

On Friday, Aug. 19, Sharon Sayles Belton, vice president, Government Affairs and Corporate Responsibility for Thomson Reuters Professional division welcomed Minnesota’s junior senator, Al Franken, to the Eagan campus to meet with the Government Affairs staff and discuss his legislative priorities with employees.

Senator Franken was elected in 2008 and sworn in to office in July 2009 following a statewide recount. Before running for the Senate, he spent 37 years as a comedy writer, author and radio talk show host. Senator Franken is part of the majority in the U.S. Senate and is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and chairs the new Privacy, Technology and the Law subcommittee, both of which directly impact Thomson Reuters.

Rick King, chief technology officer for Thomson Reuters Professional, gave Senator Franken a brief tour of our data center operations area and discussed how we manage and protect data, including the security measures we employ in the data centers.

Senator Franken also met with a group of 80 employees and gave his impressions of Congress in the wake of the debt ceiling deadline and answered questions such as, “With all the discourse in Washington, D.C., does Congress need a public relations campaign?”

This visit is a part of our Government Affairs team’s continual efforts to reach out and build relationships with our elected leaders and other government officials to ensure they know and understand our business.
