Thomson Reuters to acquire Practical Law Company
This post was written by Allison Guidette, managing director of Large Law Firms
I’m pleased to announce that Thomson Reuters has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Practical Law Company, the London-based provider of practical legal know-how and workflow tools to law firms and corporate law departments.
Practical Law Company’s strength is its focus upon delivering and maintaining the guidance, analysis and materials which front-line lawyers use on a daily basis. And Thomson Reuters offers some of the most highly regarded and authoritative primary sources, text books and legal commentary available. We believe Practical Law Company will uniquely position Thomson Reuters to deliver compelling productivity solutions that marry world-class legal information, expert know-how resources and software tools to provide lawyers with all the resources they need to advise on a full range of issues, with confidence, and from a single source.
Practical Law Company has more than 750 employees (around 500 in the UK and 250 in the U.S.), with principal operations in London and New York. The Practical Law business in the US will be led by Chris Wedgeworth, who is currently head of sales and marketing for Practical Law US. Chris will report directly to me.
The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions, and we expect to close in the first quarter of 2013. We will provide an update at that time.
I invite you to read the news release if you are interested in learning more.
