Clients continue to gravitate toward law firms that have strong brand favorability and awareness, underscoring the importance of building long-lasting relationships in today’s fast-changing marketplace. These are among the key takeaways of the Regional Law Firm Brand Indexes 2022 released today by Thomson Reuters.

The index covers legal markets in five countries and regions: the United States, the United Kingdom, Mainland Europe, Canada, and Asia Pacific. The results demonstrate how critical it is for firms to develop strong relationships with clients, who especially rely on firms for strategic counsel and support during times of uncertainty.

“A successful law firm brand depends on fostering deep trust with clients and maintaining high-quality relationships,” said Jen Dezso, director, Research and Client Relations, Thomson Reuters. “As we’ve seen throughout the pandemic, firms with strong and clearly defined brands attract clients and gain their trust. As businesses emerged from the pandemic last year, legal demand became more focused on forward-facing factors like how well law firms understood their clients’ business and market sector. Now, we see clients all around the world prioritizing this kind of specialist expertise.”

Compiled annually by Thomson Reuters, the regional brand indexes reflect which firms are upper-most in clients’ minds. They measure which firms are considered most top of mind and most favored by regional buyers of legal services, and are most considered for top-level litigation as well as M&A and high-value work. The indexes are based on data compiled from a Sharplegal market research study of the global legal market across 55 countries with more than 2,000 senior in-house counsel.
