Legal, technology and finance professionals from law firms, government and corporate legal departments across the United States, Canada, UK and Europe joined the first-ever Thomson Reuters Legal SYNERGY conference last week. Today Legal Current reflects on highlights of the virtual event, which included three days of inspiring keynotes, informative educational sessions and CLE courses, and meaningful networking activities.

All of these opportunities were important ways for Thomson Reuters to connect with customers. Paul Fischer, interim president of the Legal Professionals business for Thomson Reuters, spoke on the first day of the conference and challenged participants to think differently about the future of legal work. Presenters and participants engaged in thoughtful discussions about the legal market and how Thomson Reuters can partner with legal professionals to shape the future of the industry, using technology to help them better support their clients through improved collaboration, transparency and efficiency.

Among the SYNERGY standouts were the launches of solutions to support legal professionals in strengthening their legal operations and workflows: HighQ Contract Analysis and Quick Check Contrary Authority Identification. Key industry outlets and influencers shared their perspectives on the launches, including Steve Embry of TechLaw Crossroads, who noted: “It’s no secret that contract review is critical and time-consuming, and a source of real pain for legal departments. So tools like HighQ Contract Analysis can make in-house departments much more efficient and cost effective.”

Richard Tromans of Artificial Lawyer also highlighted the significance of HighQ Contract Analysis: “This is a big step. For years this site has waited and wondered and often asked: when will TR launch their own NLP contract analysis tool, or buy one of the well-known brands in the market? Well, here is the answer. They have made their own.”

SYNERGY product launches were also highlighted in two LawSites articles, two Dewey B. Strategic articles, KM World and Legal IT Insider, among others.

Another memorable SYNERGY moment was the Law Firm Diversity and Inclusion Panel with Jami McKeon, chair of Morgan Lewis, and Thomas Kim, chief legal officer and company secretary for Thomson Reuters. Barb McGivern, general manager of Midsize Law Firms at Thomson Reuters, moderated the panel and shared a recap of the conversation with two industry leaders who have made a significant impact on the advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) in the legal profession.

SYNERGY wasn’t all work. The entertainment line-up of Seth Meyers, the cast members from Hamilton, futurist Scott Klososky, and explorer and adventurer Alison Levine ensured that our time together was not only productive but a lot of fun.

Thank you to everyone who joined Thomson Reuters at SYNERGY and made the week a success. While it was wonderful to connect virtually, we hope to meet with colleagues and customers in person again very soon. We look forward to building on the conversations we had during SYNERGY to address customers’ needs and help shape the next version of the legal industry through the transformational power of technology.
