Thomson Reuters launches third edition of O. P. Malhotra’s “The Law and Practice of Arbitration and Conciliation”
Early this week, Thomson Reuters released the third edition of O. P. Malhotra’s “The Law and Practice of Arbitration and Conciliation” written by Indu Malhotra, senior advocate for the Supreme Court of India. The book launch was officiated by the Honorable Chief Justice of India, P. Sathasivam, in presence of the Honorable Justice M. N. Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice of India along with Swarup Choudhury, managing director, Thomson Reuters India and Arvind Pachhapur, country manager, Thomson Reuters Legal business, India.
With over 350 participants comprising lawyers, advocates, law students and media, Indu Malhotra’s book is a gift to the legal community and a useful compendium for practicing lawyers and India’s courts. The book deals with many recent developments in arbitration law and the question of jurisdiction of domestic courts to entertain challenges to awards made by foreign commercial arbitrations.
As the first book by an Indian author that discusses the topic of Investment Treaty Arbitration, it provides a comprehensive overview of the Indian Arbitration & Conciliation Act, 1996 and analysis of recent judgments delivered by the Supreme Court up to January 2014. The edition contains new and contemporary topics in arbitration, and charts the progress in India’s arbitration law, such as Investment Treaty Arbitration, Anti-Arbitration Injunctions and essential features of arbitration with relevant case law.
The book has been launched at an introductory price of INR 1800 and covers Group of Companies Doctrine, Doctrine of Prospective Overruling, and public policy as a defense in enforcement of domestic and foreign arbitral awards. There is also an analysis on the scope of judicial interference in domestic and international arbitrations.
