Thousands of Thanksgiving turkeys were distributed on the Thomson Reuters Minneapolis-St. Paul campus this week as the company celebrated 100 years of donating turkeys to employees, retirees and local nonprofit organizations.

The annual tradition was overseen this year by Elizabeth Beastrom, president, Tax & Accounting Professionals, Thomson Reuters, and Tom Walrath, vice president of real estate & facilities, Thomson Reuters. Special guests included U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar; Annette Kuyper, director of Military Outreach at the Minnesota Department of Military Affairs; and Beyond the Yellow Ribbon volunteers.

They helped with turkey donations for local military families through the Meals from the Heart program, which is available to all currently serving military members and their families. Thomson Reuters employees can opt to donate a turkey instead of receiving one, and yesterday more than 900 turkeys were given to military families. Nearly 10,000 turkeys have been donated to military families through the Thomson Reuters distribution event over the last several years.

At yesterday’s event, Senator Klobuchar thanked military members for their service and thanked Thomson Reuters for its donation. The event was also an opportunity for employees to give back to the community. At the turkey pick-up site, employees could contribute to a food drive, a toy drive and an essentials drive for Every Third Saturday, a local nonprofit organization that supports homeless veterans.
