Apple this week won a preliminary injunction banning U.S. sales of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1  tablet computer.  Last week, Judge Richard Posner threw out a pair of lawsuits that Apple and Motorola had filed against each other claiming patent infringements over smartphones.

These are just the latest skirmishes in an escalating patent litigation war among smartphone and tablet makers.
