The William L. Norton, Jr. Judicial Excellence Award, created by Thomson Reuters and the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI), recognizes distinguished bankruptcy judges for their service of the insolvency community. Named for former bankruptcy judge and longtime West author William L. Norton, Jr., each year’s award honors a bankruptcy judge whose career has embodied the same dedication to the insolvency community as did that of the award’s namesake.

The 14th annual award will be presented at the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ) annual meeting, held in Washington D.C. beginning Oct. 30, 2019, to a judge who has distinguished him or herself as an educator, writer or scholar. The recipient will be chosen from nominees by a committee of six extraordinary bankruptcy attorneys. Thomson Reuters will present a commemorative plaque to the recipient and donate $5,000 to the ABI Endowment for Education in the recipient’s name.
