Created by Thomson Reuters and the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI), the William L. Norton, Jr. Judicial Excellence Award recognizes distinguished bankruptcy judges for their service of the insolvency community. This award was created to honor a bankruptcy judge who represents the highest commitment to scholarship and service to the insolvency community, as embodied by the award’s namesake and longtime Thomson Reuters author, the late Hon. William L. Norton, Jr.

This year will mark the 15th presentation of this award at the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ) annual meeting. The 2020 meeting will be held beginning Oct. 14, 2020, in San Diego, Calif. A committee of six bankruptcy attorneys selects the winner from a pool of eligible judges nominated by their fellow judges and attorneys based on the nominee’s record of service, achievements and leadership throughout their career.

Thomson Reuters will present a commemorative plaque to the recipient and donate $5,000 to the ABI Endowment for Education in the recipient’s name.
