The William L. Norton, Jr. Judicial Excellence Award was created by Thomson Reuters and the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) to honor distinguished bankruptcy judges. Named for former bankruptcy judge and longtime West author William L. Norton, Jr., each year’s award honors a bankruptcy judge whose career has embodied the same dedication to the insolvency community as did that of the award’s namesake.

The 10th annual award is presented at the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ) annual meeting to a judge who has distinguished him or herself as an educator, writer or scholar, and who is selected from a pool of nominees by a committee of six outstanding bankruptcy attorneys.

Thomson Reuters presents a commemorative plaque to the recipient and donates $10,000 to the ABI Endowment for Education in the recipient’s name.
