Minneapolis Institute of Art lifts the veil on Stan Herd’s crop art interpretation of van Gogh’s “Olive Trees”
On a beautiful late-summer day last week, local dignitaries, special guests and neighbors of the Thomson Reuters Eagan, Minn. campus gathered for the long-awaited unveiling of Stan Herd’s crop art reproduction of Vincent van Gogh’s “Olive Trees.”
The unique project was commissioned by the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) to celebrate their 100th year, and guests from the museum – including its director and president, Kaywin Feldman – were on-hand to present the project.
Spanning more than one acre on the Thomson Reuters campus, Herd utilizes a vibrant variety of colorful plants, rocks and mulch to bring one of the Dutch master’s famed works to life.
For those of you traveling to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, you may be able to catch a glimpse of this masterwork, writ large, as you approach the airport from the southeast. Otherwise, you can see the original, albeit smaller version, in Mia’s collection.
