Thomson Reuters was recognized at the Minnesota Technology Association (MnTech) Tekne Awards celebration, held virtually yesterday, in two categories: the Tech Talent – Corporate Initiative division for its Leadhership1 program and a Lifetime Achievement Award for Managing Director of Operations Rick King. MnTech’s annual Tekne Awards shine a spotlight on Minnesota’s science and technology industry, and Thomson Reuters was honored to earn this prestigious recognition.

Leadhership1 Program

The Tech Talent – Corporate Initiative category recognizes innovative approaches to hiring, developing and retaining tech talent at an organization. Thomson Reuters was honored for its decade-long partnership with Leadhership1, which has helped the company increase retention and advancement of its highly talented mid-career women technologists.

Thomson Reuters implemented the online curriculum of Leadhership1 to create a network of nearly 1,000 mid-career women technologists worldwide who support each other’s career advancement through peer mentoring. By preparing more mid-career women for senior leadership positions, younger female technologists have more role models. The initiative is considered a win-win for gender diversity and tech talent at Thomson Reuters.

Lifetime Achievement

King was a driving force behind the Leadhership1 program at Thomson Reuters, and he was selected for a Lifetime Achievement Award based on his contributions to the success of the company as well as the enduring impact his technology leadership has made on the broader community on a local and global scale.

He has held numerous executive-level roles, including CIO and CTO, since joining Thomson Reuters in 2000. In 2019, he was named by Governor Tim Walz to chair the state’s Blue Ribbon Council on Information Technology. Earlier, he was named by former Governor Tim Pawlenty to chair Minnesota’s Ultra High-Speed Broadband Task Force. King serves on the board of trustees for Minnesota Public Radio as well as the board of directors for TCF Financial Corporation, where he chairs its technology committee.

Join us in congratulating King and the Leadhership1 team, and read more about both awards on MnTech’s website.
