Thomson Reuters is proud to honor the Detroit Police Department, Reed Smith LLP of Washington, D.C. and Davis & Associates of Denver with its 2016 Everyday Heroes awards.

This year marks the first time government, law firm and corporate investigations customers have been recognized across three respective categories – Public Service Heroes, Law Firm Heroes, and Excellence in Corporate & Legal Investigations – for their use of Thomson Reuters public records products to make a difference in their communities.

The Detroit Police Department was recognized in the Public Service Heroes category for their use of CLEAR to locate and return an abducted infant with a time-sensitive medical need back to her family within hours of her disappearance. The suspect also was apprehended.

In the Law Firm Heroes category, an attorney at Reed Smith LLP, a global law firm, worked with a group of law students on a project to use PeopleMap on Westlaw to identify wrongly incarcerated individuals and help them obtain tax refunds with pro bono legal counsel.

In the Excellence in Corporate & Legal Investigations category, Davis & Associates, a private investigations firm, used CLEAR to locate a missing person and deliver the case information to law enforcement.

“When my colleagues and I reviewed our customers’ entries for this year’s Everyday Heroes award program, we were amazed by the stories they told and our customers’ commitment to serve their respective communities,” said Steve Rubley, managing director of Thomson Reuters Government business. “Congratulations to the Detroit Police Department, Reed Smith and Davis & Associates for their inspiring work.”

Everyday Heroes award recipients receive a $10,000 charitable donation made by Thomson Reuters on their behalf. This year’s selected beneficiaries are:

  • The Police Unity Tour, selected by the Detroit Police Department
  • After Innocence, selected by Reed Smith LLP
  • National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, selected by Davis & Associates

Customers who use CLEAR, PeopleMap on Westlaw and other Thomson Reuters public records solutions are encouraged to share their stories on hero.thomsonreuters.com.
