Our nation relies heavily on Guard and Reserve service. Employer support enhances retention rates in the Armed Forces and in the end, strengthens our national security. Last week, the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) of Minnesota recognized the most outstanding examples of employer support at its Annual Employer Support Awards Banquet, and Thomson Reuters was the proud winner of two awards.

The Above and Beyond Award and the Freedom Award Nomination Award were accepted by Craig Yolitz, vice president of Operations for FindLaw, and Pat McDonald, Air Force Major and team coach in Technology at Thomson Reuters, who nominated the company for the awards.

The Above and Beyond Award was presented by ESGR state committees and recognizes employers at the local level who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). The award is given in limited numbers by state committees to employers who have had at least one of their supervisors/managers recognized with a Patriot Award, and who have signed or agree to sign a statement of support.  The Freedom Award is the Department of Defense’s highest honor for employers that provide extraordinary support to their Guard and Reserve employees.

“I was proud to nominate Thomson Reuters for the Above and Beyond award,” said McDonald.  “As an organization and Minnesota Yellow Ribbon company, Thomson Reuters provides tremendous support to our citizen warrior employees and is actively involved with the community to support the families of those that serve.”

ESGR is a Department of Defense volunteer organization chartered to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve members.
