Ah, the Great Minnesota Get Together (AKA, the Minnesota State Fair). When asked, most people say they go to the fair for the food (deep-fried, sugar-soaked and delicious). For me, going to the fair this year was a little different.

On Aug. 28, we fearless Minnesotans braved the intense heat and gathered in Carousel Park to honor our veterans during the fair’s Military Appreciation Day.

I had the pleasure of speaking at the event about our company’s commitment to veterans. We became a Yellow Ribbon Company in 2011 and are working really hard to live up to the honor.

So I spoke and encouraged the veterans in attendance to apply for open technology jobs at the nearby Thomson Reuters booth where we had HR representatives and employees from the Veterans Employee Resource Group standing by.

I wasn’t the only one in attendance; the event also included an address from the governor, free chocolate chip cookies from Sweet Martha’s Cookie Jar, and a concert by country music recording artist Rockie Lynne, which Thomson Reuters sponsored.

It was really great to see so many out to support the brave men and women of Minnesota who have served our country so honorably.

Check out the video below for highlights of the great event.
