EAGAN, Minn.  – The Legal business of Thomson Reuters recently launched a new twice-monthly podcast. “Wait, What?” – equal parts Socratic instruction and casual end-of-the-bar conversation about the technologies that have become too close and large to be ignored.

Hosted by Matt Angelicola, Joe Harris, Rob Russell and Jason Thomas – all Thomson Reuters Government segment leaders – ”Wait, What?” explores  where things like drones, Internet activism, machine learning and privacy intersect with culture and social media. The podcast quickly brings listeners up to speed on the technologies and their impacts, while also drawing out connections to policy trends and stories in the news.

“We live in an amazing time where technology influences almost everything that we do,” said Thomas, manager of innovation, Government segment, Thomson Reuters. “Unfortunately, many of us find these new technologies overwhelming and intimidating. We thought that talking about trends and their impacts and making those conversations accessible to a wide audience would encourage a broader conversation.”

According to Susan Martin, managing editor of social media at Thomson Reuters and the producer of the podcast, response to the inaugural episodes has been very positive. “The four hosts are a winning mix of one part geeks, one part barristers and one part college-boys-at-heart – maybe a little too fascinated by gadgets and almost certainly with their own opinions. But their charm carries the day and it’s pretty smart programming. People are listening because ‘Wait, What?’ helps reduce complex issues into something understandable, and listeners can have a few laughs along the way.”
