Thomson Reuters Patsy Doerr, global head of Corporate Responsibility & Inclusion, and Dave Curran, global director of Risk & Compliance, were in Philadelphia a few weeks ago and stopped by WWDB AM 860 radio to record an interview for Sue Rocco’s Women to Watch show. Doerr and Curran talk about the difference between having a mentor – someone seasoned who can give you guidance and develop your ideas – and a sponsor who can champion your career. They ask whether seeking a sponsor as well as a mentor could be a smart career move.
The show is frank about the things holding back people’s careers, including impostor syndrome – when you think you’re going to be ‘found out’ in a leadership position – and cultural issues such as research showing that some women avoid self aggrandizement and are less likely to seek self promotion, which can put them at a disadvantage in furthering their careers.
