In the video below, Dan Dabney, chief taxonomist at Thomson Reuters, describes how our attorney-editors continue to make alterations to the Key Number System, including reclassifying 300,000 headnotes for the revisions to the Election Key Number. This year, the editorial staff also combined the topics “schools” and “colleges and universities” into a new topic: “education.” This will help establish a solid location for law relating to education, such as personal injuries to students and teachers, curriculum regulation, and special education.

The number of court cases flowing through our legal system continues to grow each year, and the Key Number System as a classification scheme continues to provide the best taxonomy for the quickest and most efficient research for legal profession.
